MIF In Asthma

Lungs

Asthma is one of the most common human inflammatory diseases, affecting millions of patients worldwide. Asthma is characterized by inflammation of the airways and several cytokines have been implicated. MIF has been shown to be overexpressed in human asthma tissue, and MIF-deficient mice exhibit dramatic reductions in disease severity in models of asthma. Moreover, reductions in lung inflammation in the absence of MIF are accompanied by improvements in airway function.
