MIF In MS

Brain

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a debilitating autoimmune disease of the central nervous system which results in paralysis and premature loss of life. MIF has been shown to be overexpressed in human MS patients, including in cerebrospinal fluid, and MIF-deficient mice exhibit dramatic reductions in disease severity accompanied by reductions in lesional T cell recruitment. Moreover, anti-MIF antibody treatment is effective in preventing clinical disease in a mouse model of MS, and in treating established disease.
